About
Nursery
We are enthousiastic gardeners. Ever since we settled in Oosterwold, we have been growing edible perennials for the food forest garden.
Twice a year we organize a joint purchase for organic seed potatoes, onions and garlic (non-profit)
Availability of plants and seed material is communicated via the Facebook group “Marktplaats Oosterwold”. You can also sign up for news by email regarding new planting material or the joint purchase of seed material.
Fruit and vegetables
We grow our vegetables in the most ecological way possible. We use permaculture “tricks” that make the cultivation of the land as light as possible. Like, covering the soil with cardboard and compost so there’s no need to dig. The worms do the work and the soil remains healthier. Of course no poison is used on our land.
Our garden is a combination of a vegetable garden and a food forest garden. The food forest garden is still relatively young, but will produce more and more herbs, berries, nuts and large fruit in the coming years. We strive for as much diversity as possible. Occasionally special berries, such as Japanese wineberry, honeyberry and Szechuan pepper, are available.
Processing harvest
Together with the Kleikolonie, we process fruit and vegetables in various ways: freezing, drying, fermenting, and old-fashioned preserving.
If there is sufficient yield, you can expect jams and tea in our shared road-side stall.
Old techniques
Scythe
With the exception of the grass paths, the rest of the land is being cleared with a scythe. It goes as fast as with a brush cutter, but it makes no noise and it costs nothing in energy except food. (Ra)barbera is registered with the Oosterwold scythe club or can refer you to a local professional.
Basket weaving
In addition to edible plants, we grow various willow species that are suitable for basket weaving. If you are interested in willow branches, send us an email or WhatsApp message.
